The earliest Greeks thought there were only Seven Wonders of the World. But in the beginning of the 21st century it was found that just one of those 7 World Wonders still existed, and that was the Great Pyramid of Giza. In 2001 a contest was held to establish the current world’s version of the seven World Wonders. There were several creditable replacements and finally instead of seven, 8 World Wonders were listed.
1.Christ the Redeemer
Statue of Christ the Redeemer of Brazil was finished in around 1931 and it is 38 meters in height with a foundation measuring up to 28 meters.
2. Machu Picchu
Peru’s Machu Picchu is commonly identified as the Lost City of the Incas. The foundation of this city was laid in 1460, and was positioned on top of the Urubamba River.
3. Chichen Itza
Another great example of the 8 World Wonders is Chichen Itza, situated in Mexico and considered to be the hub of Mayan culture till 1000 AD. Chichen Itza, famously called as Uucyabnal, is a significant historic Mayan site.
4. Great Wall of China
Great Wall of China is the largest man made structure spreading across 6,400 km in length. Its construction started in the beginning of the 5th century BC.
Petra City situated in Jordan is certainly among the 8 World Wonders as it is considered being a highly valuable artistic possession of man’s national tradition by UNESCO. It is renowned for its structures that are being carved out of red stones.
Roman Colosseum of Italy was constructed by the Flavian dynasty and was finished approximately around 80 AD.
7. Taj Mahal
Taj Mahal of India was designed by famous Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. It is a white tomb made of marble. It was constructed in the fond memory of the emperor’s much loved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
8. Great Pyramid of Giza
Great Pyramid of Giza located in Egypt is another brilliant example of the 8 World Wonders. It is the most ancient pyramid still in existence. It was built by Khufu as his private last resting place.
